Corporate team-building exercises can make you want to kill yourself. Luckily the folks in Severance were spared the effort. A group of British cube dwellers on a bonding mission travel to a lodge in a Hungarian forest, where they are attacked by a mysterious killer. As bodies begin to drop faster than share prices at Lehman Brothers, the survivors must use all their water-cooler savvy to stay alive. Filled with gore, Severance recalls the glory days of the Saw and Hostel, yet manages to shoot sharp satirical arrows in the direction of contemporary office culture. There’s an absence of A-list stars but the movie does not suffer for it. You would be hard pressed to find another film that marries comedy and horror so successfully.
