House of Condom
Space rave: As one of the retail pioneers of adult toys in Singapore, the vibe at House of Condom is more fun than seedy. It stocks many novelty items alongside a wide range of sex aids. Recently expanded and refurbished, the ambience has a welcoming feel that’s enhanced by upbeat music, while shop assistants are friendly and knowledgeable as they have all gone through customer-service training. What that training involves, we can’t say for sure (snigger…)
Frisky fave: Limited Edition Golden Jack Rabbit (price upon request), with seven (one for each colour of the rainbow?) vibration functions and six rotation speeds. Whoa!
Blush factor:
Perv alert: Not an issue here as the majority of HoC’s customers are either tourists, who pop into the Orchard Road outlet out of curiosity, or genuine shoppers.

Oohtique! (This venue has closed)
Space rave: Oohtique!’s feminine-oriented decor makes this perhaps the most sensual and romantic sex store in Singapore. The shop offers a wide range of products, from sexy lingerie and adult toys to costumes for role-play and instructional DVDs. The boutique also organises hen nights, workshops, stag parties and birthday bashes at its on-site lounge. For more risqué choices, head directly to the room behind the cash counter.
Frisky fave: The Amazing Vegetable Vibrator ($79). Choose your pleasure in banana or cucumber form.
Blush factor:
Perv alert: Nay. Tucked away on the second level within a row of shophouses, there’s an added sense of privacy to Oohtique! as customers have to trudge up a steep flight of stairs just to get to the boutique. At weekends, you can spot the odd hen and her slightly tipsy crew leaving its premises.

S.E.X. In The City
Space rave: Like the similarly named TV series, S.E.X. In The City is hard to miss. The entrance is marked by a rather large image of a man and woman in mid-embrace. Once inside, the simple, almost utilitarian layout provides a comfortable and breezy shopping experience. Sales assistants take the initiative to make shoppers feel at ease.
Frisky fave: Twin Turbo Rabbit ($249) with dual rotation for internal (raised eyebrows) stimulation and external massaging.
Blush factor:
Perv alert: Located on street level right in the heart of Chinatown, it’s not uncommon to find ‘dirty old men’ wandering into S.E.X. In The City. One sales assistant told us she’s had regular punters coming in to enquire whether the shop provides ‘extra services’, and male customers trying on the women’s lingerie and asking if they look sexy in it.
