Café on Tanjong Pagar Road doubles as a furniture restorer.
This shop-cum-café was conceived by Meg Wettstein and Liew Hwee Min, who nurture a passion for all things upholstered. The vintage furniture that they get their hands on – chairs, dining tables, display cabinets and sofas – is sent to their workshop and then put on creative display in the shop. The brightly lit space has red, orange and green chairs hanging on the walls and tea sets sitting on the retro shelves. Somehow bagels ($5.50) and waffles ($8.80) make their way into the shop as well; they’ve got a café set up in the back, so take a seat in a mid-century Scandinavian-inspired chair and dream up ideas for how to redesign your living room. Or ask one of the owners to help: ‘[Try] using modern coloured upholstery in a vintage chair, or display bright cheerful items in a vintage cabinet,’ Liew says.
