Formerly Singapore’s red-light district, Bugis has been cleaned up and redeveloped. Straits-Chinese shophouses were glassed in to form part of this mall (also called Parco Bugis Junction), which contains Japanese department store Seiyu and plenty of teen-friendly shops. Of particular interest is the Edge, a collection of Japanese-inspired streetwear boutiques; purists dismiss it as a poor imitation of
popular youth fashion destinations the Heeren Shops or Far East Plaza, but there are bargains. Bugis Junction's outdoor fountain is where you will often see drenched, screaming kids having a whale of a time. As the water comes from the floor and in various shapes and patterns, guessing where the next sprout will spurt from is half the fun.
