Working hard to set the trends, not merely follow them, Strangelets works closely with a small batch of imaginative designers to provide eye-catching, conversation-starter furniture pieces

Though pronounced ‘Strange-lets’ and not ‘Strangel-ets’, this quirky little nook will definitely choke the hell out of your credit card. Offering creations by chic designers like Nils Holger Moormann and David Restorick, the store is a delight for fans of luxurious furnishings – think beautiful lamps, sleek bookcases and other peculiar decor items like fertility dolls. Strangelets also has a lovely collection of Xhosa crafts by the Imiso design collective, thanks to co-owner Joshua Comaroff’s South African roots. Clockwork beetles (available in three sizes) from Insectlab and Moormann’s mutant chair-cumbookcase piece are a couple of must-see curios, but impulse buyers beware: the bill is going to hurt.
