Frisbee on the beach

Best for: Those who spend the week holed up in the office and are in need of Vitamin D replenishment.
Gear: Plastic frisbee, beach blanket and cold beverages for half time.
Average calories burned: 200 per hour.
Jon's verdict: With no standing around, it can be a great workout. Go the Ultimate Frisbee route, and the extra running will strengthen arms and legs, and provide an overall cardio.
Where to go: The Ultimate Players’ Association of Singapore holds casual pick-up games at Tanjong Beach, Sentosa, 120 Tanjong Beach Walk (www.singaporeultimate.com). Every Saturday 4.30-7pm. Free.

Horseback riding

Best for: Animal lovers with cash to spare.
Gear: The horse and saddle will be provided, but elasticised clothing will make the experience more comfortable.
Average calories burned: 150-200 per hour.
Jon's verdict: Riding works the glutes, arms and core, and promotes back strength.
Where to go: Bukit Timah Saddle Club, 51 Fairways Dr (6466 2264). Open by appointment. Eight 1.5 hour sessions for $385.20; trial sessions $85.60 or $10 (kids’ pony rides every Sun 10am-1pm).

Indoor skydiving

Best for: Thrill seekers who lack the courage to jump out of a plane.
Gear: None; everything is provided.
Average calories burned: 200 per session.
Jon's verdict: Controlling body movements in the air will work out your core muscles.
Where to go: iFly Singapore, 43 Siloso Walk, Sentosa (6571 0000). Tue- Sun 9am-10pm; Mon 10.30am-10pm. Adults $89; children $79; family pass (2 adults, 2 children) $285.

Lasertag

Best for: Geeks looking to re-enact their favourite sci-fi action movies.
Gear: Comfortable clothing that you don’t mind sweating in.
Average calories burned: The exertion is similar to basketball: in one ten- or 15-minute round you could be looking at 100 or 200 per hour.
Jon's verdict: The benefits are similar to paintball. It could be a great workout when done at the right intensity level. Squatting to hide from opponents works the glutes and thighs.
Where to go: Combat Skirmish holds lasertag sessions at various locations around town (6779 1031, www.combatlasersingapore.com). First or last week of the month 4-5.30pm; additional sessions available by reservation.$30-$48.

Simulate a game of golf

Best for: Golf enthusiasts looking for a quick after-work swing.
Gear: Full office attire is the norm; we prefer tie removal rather than just loosening the corporate suit. All equipment is provided.
Average calories burned: 150 per hour.
Jon's verdict: This should tone your arms, shoulders, and especially your back muscles. It’s also good for keeping older folk flexible.
Where to go: 282 & City Golf, 61st Floor, One Raffles Place, 1 Raffles Pl (6536 4846). Sun-Tue 10am-midnight; Mon-Wed 2-6pm, 10pm-late; Wed-Sat 10am-2am. $50 per hour; other days and times $75.

Previous 5: Zipline through the trees, frisbee on the beach, fly a kite, go rollerblading, and bowling
