‘I believe it is super cool as Singapore is perfect for another Asian race. Some are scared of night racing but I believe it would be a great show and this is the right direction for the sport. I don’t see any dangers as other sports also take place at night. I think they can make it work and I hope to be able to race in it!’

‘I want to see exactly what will become Singapore’s signature Grand Prix spot. Like the famous hairpin shot at Monaco, it’ll become the one place that everyone who’s ever seen Formula 1 will associate with Singapore. It’s not something you can manufacture, it’ll just evolve naturally. Stand by for a perfectly ordinary landmark – like the Abbey Road zebra crossing made famous by the Beatles’ album cover – to be swamped by tourists lining up to have their photos taken.’

‘The idea of a night race seems just perfect! It could be marketed as the ‘sexiest race in Asia’. A nice balmy evening, Singapore Slings, satay, sundowners and speed. Does it get any better than that?’

‘It would be great to have one more race based in Asia. It will be very exciting.’

‘I’d like to see a few things: one, a high-speed corner along the Marina where a driver can make or break it by either pulling off a spectacular overtaking move and becoming a hero or messing it up and actually ending, up in the water; two, an Asian driver on the grid to reignite the interest in the region, as Lewis Hamilton has done for Britain. And three, the opportunity for fans to flood the circuit after the race and run right up under the podium and cheer for their hero of the day, just like in Melbourne and Monza.’
