Hong Kong's fitness chain opens a gym on Orchard Road that offers complimentary T-shirts, shorts and socks
If you're one of those who like to joke that channel-surfing is your exercise, you're in luck. Not only can you watch TV at Pure Fitness, you can also pop in a DVD on one of their treadmills and tune into your favourite series. Singapore's newest gym is in Knightsbridge – the mall attached to Grand Park Orchard (the old Crown Prince Hotel) – and part of the popular Hong Kong fitness chain.
If the name rings a bell, that's because their Pure Yoga studios have already made a sterling reputation here for their impeccable personalised service despite their size. Pure Fitness hopes to replicate that success in the new 15,000 sq ft club, which offers 80 types of round-the-clock exercise classes taught by both local and international instructors.
One of these is the Polar Cardio GX, a group cycling class where you can see each member's heart rate splashed on a screen monitor. The logic: seeing others performing well will inspire you to try harder. There's also the TRX suspension training, which tightens your core, lengthens your muscle and increases your flexibility. Think of it as hardcore Pilates with your body as the machine. And for those who really do use their body like a machine, there's the pole dancing class.
The Life Fitness treadmill that's outfitted with a DVD also has an iPod dock and a USB slot where you can download a workout report. The Woodway Curve, which is positioned to face the stretch of Orchard Road, is a non-motorised treadmill that mimics outdoor running; but unlike pounding the pavement, this has less impact on your joints.
The locker rooms are spiffingly clean, and there's free Wi-Fi access and refreshments, as well as T-shirts, shorts, towels and socks. But if there's one compelling reason why you should try Pure Fitness it is their Polar BodyAge System, for it answers the most important question – 'What is your body age?' – through a series of fitness tests that can last from eight to 45 minutes. After all, when it comes to your body, age really does matter.

I am currently holding a membership with Pure. The only issue I have with them is they have a very lousy selection of DVDs. Very limited old movies without upgrading and it has been a year and we are still having the same old things.
Also too many TV series which we can hard grab the one we should be following. Frankly I just find no effort being initiated to improve this though times and times it has been mentioned.

It's a great gym - perhaps the nicest in SG with high standards for cleanliness, quality of equipment, and quality of staff. Attracts a equally high quality clientele. One tip - Skip renting a shoe locker - they charge you $20 extra a month for it while most member just put there shoes on top of the lockers for free!

Went to check out their promotion for Standard Chartered Marathon (SCB) participants. My goals centers on over-all body fitness and conditioning and to strengthen my weak core for the full marathon, rather than endurance training on their treadmill machines which the sales person seem more interested in impressing me with.
I was shown around the gym which I thought was packed with brand new treadmills and stationary bikes, which I wasn't interested in. Think the equipment is OK but you have to be rather disciplined and knowledgeable to use the equipment effectively unless you engage a personal trainer.
When I asked about the 1 week complimentary trial session for SCB participants they seem to quickly brush it aside and revert to getting you to sign up. I really need to think about whether it can fulfill my SCB goals for F&C minus a personal trainer.
Perhaps they should consider holding circuit training fitness and conditioning classes for SCB or endurance runners. I would be definitely interested in that. Hope my comment helps.
