Bustamove
This event has finished
MTV’s latest offering, Bustamove, attempts to treat the emotionally disturbed through – wait for it – dance! This one has shades of David LaChapelle’s documentary Rize, which chronicled the rise of clowning and krumping in the black community of Los Angeles – styles that evolved as artistic and emotional responses to oppression. In Bustamove, rapper Brooks Buford travels the globe with a team of choreographers, bringing emotional release to troubled youths by teaching them to get jiggy with it. The Chosen Ones have 24 hours to learn the routines before performing in front of the person they have issues with. Once the rhythm divine takes over, those repressed feelings come pouring out. Drama unfolds on camera as fathers are confronted, ex-boyfriends are berated and siblings reconcile, all through the comedy and irony of dance. Freud is probably spinning in his grave, too.
