Now in its second season, Californication is quickly acquiring cult status in the US. Hank Moody (David Duchovny) is a critically acclaimed, commercially successful novelist. Writers tend to be slightly crazy though, and Moody is more so than your average scribe – he’s a certified sex addict. The series follows him as he tries to balance work, his relationships with his daughter and his ex-girlfriend, and his tendency to unravel at the drop of a hat. The storyline is compelling, the dialogue witty – and Duchovny is brilliant, helping us believe in him again after the travesty that was The X-Files II. Californication is one of the most promising TV series in recent memory. The content is quite explicit though, and viewer discretion is advised.
