Be prepared to go ga-ga over the new Eee PC 1000. Tipping the scales at a bantamweight 1.33kg, this subnotebook comes with 40GB solid state drive, 2GB of RAM, and a 1.3 mega-pixel camera. The 10-inch display is larger than that of any of the older ASUS models, and the previously miniature keyboard has been expanded for easier access. Although its motto of a ‘unique design to fit your individual personality’ is a whole lot of marketing garbage, the Eee PC 1000 does promise a new era in mobile computing. Downsides? The seven- hour battery gets the life sucked out of it if both Wi-Fi and video features are being used; it runs noticeably slower if too many applications are open at once; and the slightly higher price means it’s not that much cheaper than a full-size laptop.
