Under the same ownership as nearby Hotel 1929, the New Majestic opened to great acclaim in 2006. From the big white lobby with its vintage fans and designer chairs to the idiosyncratic themed guest rooms – each one different – the whole place is a style statement. Brightly coloured wall murals, created by local artists and designers, are a feature, as are claw-footed bathtubs (perhaps encased in glass in the middle of the room, or set outside in a mini garden). Some rooms are two-level, others have hanging beds. There’s a small pool, with portholes in the bottom that overlook the in-house Cantonese restaurant, Majestic.

The Majestic Bar next door is also owned by the Hotel.
