The Royal Plaza has always been sought after, thanks to its reputation for excellent service, affordable rates and convenient location on Scotts Road. But some upgrading was needed to keep up with the competition; the hotel reopened – as a no-smoking property – in early 2007. The grand marble lobby with its twin curving staircases sets the scene for a host of luxurious touches, even in the standard rooms (32in LCD TV, ultra-comfortable beds with hypo-allergenic pillows). Notable additions include a brand-new lounge bar, Heat, and the all-buffet restaurant Carousel. Business travellers will appreciate the free wireless internet access.
