#1: Four Seasons Singapore

If there’s one thing we can thank puppy-toting Paris Hilton for, it’s that she has popularised animal travel to such a degree that many top-notch hotels are now happy to accommodate our furry friends. The Four Seasons Singapore, for example, allows one so-called ‘lap dog’ (under 8kg) per room for no extra charge. They also allow all cats, ferrets and rabbits – but, says the reception, ‘No tigers, please!’ While you have to sign a contract, the hotel has two simple rules. No animals in any of the food and beverage outlets and dogs are to be leashed in the common areas. As for your pet’s comfort, they’ll arrange for a sleeping basket for your pampered one and will usually allocate any pet-occupied room away from couples.

Costs: From S$360.
Where:
190 Orchard Boulevard, Singapore (Tel: 6734 1110, www.fourseasons.com/singapore).

#2: Liam’s Suan Dok Mai Guesthouse & Restaurant, Chiang Mai

On the mountainous outskirts of Chiang Mai, Liam’s Suan Dok Mai Guesthouse has a curious motto: ‘Ideally [sic] for well-trained guests who like travelling with their pets’. Welcoming guests of all sizes and breeds, Liam’s is an eight-room lodge designed by a duo of self-proclaimed dog lovers. Four rooms open up to a patio and spacious garden especially for pets on the prowl, and though you’ll need to bring your preferred pet food, your four-legged friends are welcome to eat it with you in the restaurant. During the day, dog-owners can keep Fido occupied at kennel-cumtraining school Lucky Dogs (www. luckydogs.info), available for guests who need walking, training or even therapy (remember: not for you, for the pets). While the establishment leans more towards pooches than pussycats, Liam’s is happy to care for fluffy felines as long as they’re dog-friendly.

Costs: From THB1,550-1,850 (S$48-$77), pet stays THB150-200 (S$6-$8); extra charges apply per pet services.
Where: 87/45 Moo 7 Tambon Faham, Moo Baan Samakon, A Muang, Chiang Mai, Thailand (Tel: +66 53 855 033, http://www.liamsuandokmai.com).

#3: The Hughenden, Sydney

Some may consider The Hughenden – located in Sydney’s Woollahra district – a bit too pet-friendly. These guys not only welcome dogs and cats, but even allow pet baby kangaroos spend the night. Offering more services for its hairy guests than for its paying patrons, there’s no spa for people, but a whole salon for dogs to touch up nails and highlights. They’ve also gone to great lengths to design special seats for the furry ones within its in-house restaurant, Quaifes.

Costs: From AU$118 (S$151); no extra charge for pets.

Where: 14 Queen Street, Woollahra, New South Wales, Australia (Tel: +61 2 9363 4863, http://www.thehughenden.com.au).
