Situated just a stone’s throw from the Sultan Mosque, in what used to be the Sultan’s palace grounds – not bad for $25 a night – Sleepy Sam’s has character by the bucketload. The hostel’s rustic charms are complemented by contemporary decorative touches. Some of the dorms rooms are set aside for women only, and there are private rooms too. But keeping to oneself isn’t the done thing: the living room and barbecue area make meeting other guests easy.
