That look's just unreal!
Who needs a makeover when you can get a fakeover? Take the ‘New Year, new you’ mantra at face value and change your appearance without going under the knife, says TOS staff. Photography by Lester Ledesma

EYEBROWS
The pull off Whack bushy brows
The process There are many ways to get to the root of the problem when it comes to hairy, unruly brows: waxing, electrolysis, threading and even shaving. Still, there’s nothing like a traditional tweezing to break in a novice. Bobbi Brown manager Vivian Leong began by sharing the rules of angles: hold a pen straight up from the middle of one nostril, and the eyebrow should start there; the highest part of the arch should be where that pen is at a 45-degree angle; and the brow should end at roughly the 60-degree angle. The goal was to shape them in a way that would enhance my face. Then, she wiped down my eye with make-up remover, sprayed disinfectant on the tools (tweezers, brow scissors and lash comb) and on her hands, and 20 minutes later, her expert fingers had zipped through my brows, with nary a bit of pain. Leong not only tidied up those creepy caterpillars, but she also evened them out – turns out one is naturally higher than the other, and I’d butchered the shape of my right one with my uneducated tweezing. Luckily, I’ve learnt how to keep up the good work and pluck out the strays.
The price to pay Brow Grooming Service, $15 per session or six sessions for $75.

EYELASHES
The pull off Longer, thicker eyelashes
The process If you’re feeling the need to flutter your lashes, get some help at Shu Uemura’s Lash Bar. Beauty stylist Teresa Tan started by showing me the entire range of fake lashes available and, using a graph, illustrated how the different lashes would alter my eyes. She deduced that my natural lashes had adequate volume but were not long enough, and suggested the Black Focal set, for an eye-catching but not over-the top effect. Before putting the fake lashes on, she applied basic eye make-up to my lids, using a base, highlighter and a smoky, blue-grey shade to give my eyes more dimension. She then curled my real lashes twice and applied two coats of mascara. Once my eyes were done, she measured and trimmed the correct length of fake lashes needed and proceeded to squeeze a small amount of the adhesive on the back of her hand, pressing the sticky area of the fake lashes lightly ontothe adhesive. I closed my eyes as she applied the lashes as close as possible to the eyelid; I kept my eyes shut for the next 30 to 45 seconds to allow the adhesive to stick properly. Once the adhesive had dried, she used the lash applicator to clip my real and fake lashes together, and voilà!
The price to pay Black Focal eyelashes, $32; adhesive, $15; lash applicator, $74; eyelash curler, $24; mascara, $46; eyeshadow, $32. Eyelashes range from $20-$89. Application is free of charge upon purchase of a set, but an additional $20 is charged for basic eye make-up.
Available at the Shu Uemura Lash Bar at Tangs Beauty Hall (6734 6289).

NOSE AND CHEEKBONES
The pull off A sharper nose and more defi ned cheekbones
The process Chaven Lee, the make-up artist, first prepped my skin with Clarins Shaping Facial Lift – a solution with plant extracts that improves microcirculation, believed to help reshape and refi ne facial features by increasing the blood circulation in the skin’s capillaries. Next, she brushed bronzing powder along the sides of my nose and highlights on the bridge of my nose to make it look narrower and sharper. To accentuate my cheekbones, Chaven swept the blushing powder from the apple of my cheeks up toward my temples; bronzing powderwas then applied to the hollows of my cheek near the jawline to create a slimming effect on my face.
The price to pay Clarins Shaping Facial Lift, $93.80; Clarins Bronzing Duo, $61.20; Clarins Complexion Perfector, $51. A makeover is complimentary with the purchase of any two Clarins items.

LIPS
The pull off Fuller, plumper puckers
The process The directions on ModelCo’s Lip Plumper are simple: it’s just like applying lip gloss. That little tube of balm contains mineral oil, mica, ginger, root oil and a laundry list of other ingredients that don’t mean a thing to someone like me. But who cares? As long as it gives me Angelina Jolie lips, I’ll be happy to spread a layer (or three) on mine. According to the description on the box, this miracle-in-a-tube stimulates the muscle receptors in my lips and reduces lines and lip wrinkles. Fifteen minutes after application, my lips started to sting a little. I noticed I also had less control and had to dab the corners of my mouth every now and then because I was, erm, drooling. However, my lips looked luscious and ready to plant a big fat one.
The price to pay ModelCo Lip Plumper, $32. Available at Apothecary + Co.

I want sexy plump puckers like Sabrina's after shot, but I don't want to look like a blubbering buffoon! How?
I went to see Vivian at Bobbi Brown after this -she is brilliant!
