With a polished Victorian gentlemen’s aesthetic straight out of a Sherlock Holmes novel, the aptly-named Hounds of the Baskervilles is Singapore’s first traditional Western barbershop. The décor and service immerses guys in a traditional barbershop experience with a measured attention to detail, from the immaculately coiffed barbers to the handsome vintage furniture the shop is kitted out in. Owner Feroze McLeod and his dandy band of Australian-trained tonsorial artists offer hair cuts ($25-$35), hot-towel shaves ($20) and full-faced grooms ($20) for the man seeking a deft, cultured hand to tame his mane. If you need any more persuading to step in, take it from McLeod, who says ‘Men, if you cannot control your hair, you cannot control your life’. In the back, they also offer a tattoo service, with a selection of old-school designs or custom artwork (prices around $300/half day). Walk-ins are welcome, but given the buzz this salon has generated in its opening weeks, appointments are recommended. Look out for several official Movember Singapore events here this November as well.
