One of six brands occupying Seviin – the recently opened luxury spa concept on the formerly exclusive seventh floor of TANGS – the Gentlemen’s Lounge is the only option for men amid specialty facials and other premium beauty services for women.
Designed as a cosy refuge for men (as you might expect from their name) to get a quick health treatment – or even just to get a drink and watch some relaxing TV – while their partners are shopping, The Gentlemen’s Lounge makes efficient use of its four-room space set carved out in the centre area of Seviin. Upon entry, there’s a two seat bar area offering a variety of alcohol drinks, tea and coffee, which opens up into a more open TV lounge area, where you can get foot massages while flipping through HBO and other cable channels.
Launched by Sherman Koh and Mary Yong, the founders of My Happy Feet in Holland Village and Purvis Street, there are several of the foot massage options from My Happy Feet on the menu (Happy Feet, $108/hour, includes foot scrub, hydrating foot mask and foot reflexology), along with quick fixes for your head, shoulders and arms ($58/30 mins) or even manicures (called The Gentleman’s Handshake, $45) and ear-candling ($48), which can be done seated in their plush lounge chairs.
There are four private rooms, which are used for their full body treatments. Choose between a Swedish-style oil massage or a more acupressure oil-free massage ($128/hour) – their signature is the Golfer’s Paradise, which combines both styles, and can be combined with a foot or arm massage as well ($178/90 mins) also. There’s a shower shared by Seviin which can be requested for use.
Yong stresses that while visitors are welcome to The Gentlemen’s Lounge just to relax, their treatments are focused more on overall wellness – ‘it’s not just a feel good massage’, she says. Indeed, during my treatment, I was slightly surprised to be assigned to a male masseuse, their senior therapist David (on busier days, they employ between three-four therapists, both male and female). David deftly worked over all the key pressure points on my feet and back points firmly, even giving a report of areas where I was particularly tight.
