Imagine walking off chronic knee pain and backache. Or slipping into a pair of sandals that help to tone the bottom and thighs, giving them a workout equivalent to hitting the gym. Engineered with a multi-density mid-sole, the FitFlop from the UK incorporates the patent-pending ‘microwobbleboard’ (try saying that thrice for fun) technology, which they claim challenges hard-to-reach muscles to work harder while reducing joint strain and absorbing shock. And after giving it a go – specifically a few tours around VivoCity – we can definitely feel some sort of a lower-body workout happening. If you’re the sort who needs a bit more convincing, how’s this for proof: since the launch last year, the shoe has generated almost US$120 (S$171) million in sales, has a waiting list on leading luxuryfashion retailer Net-a-Porter.com, and has been namechecked by the divine Miss O (that’s Oprah).

From $89.90 (Walkstar for ladies), $109.90 (The Dass for men).

Available at Ocean Paradise, #01-08 Tanglin Mall (6235 4718);
#05-56/58 The Paragon (6836 2672);
CoCo Club, #01-05 Holland Village, 1 Lorong Mambong (9660 0072)
Isetan (Scotts), Shaw House, 350 Orchard Rd (6733 1111).
