Pronouned ‘Kroot’ (the French word for ‘crust’), this new 50-seater sandwich bar from Japanese-American chef Bouk Cebula (also behind Robertson Walk favourite Hummerstons and formerly head chef of PS Cafe) features a stylish retro vibe similar to all his projects, but there’s a cafeteria/ hawker-style ordering concept – you order, pay for and collect your food at the counter.

As you might expect, there’s a heavy emphasis on breads here, with six types on offer – baguette, ciabatta, sourdough, multi-grain, flour tortilla and pan de mie – which you can select along with hot fillings like ham and brie ($10), beef pastrami ($11) and Spanish pork BBQ ($11), as well as cold ones like pineapple shiso chicken ($7), spicy tofu ($7) or smoked salmon ($9). Several Hummerstons standards are also available here (albeit in smaller portions), including the maple granola ($8) and the H platter ($14) consisting of cured meat, cheese, cornichons, house salad and bread.
